 Information was transmitted using drums from village to village for thousands of years. It was among the first things to be mesured and the base of math as a language.

 As used by some of the elite behind the iron curtain. Scientific research proved what the ancient cultures already knew to be fact.

When a rhythm is played at a certain beat per minute it allows more memory retention and recollection and accuracy.

Rhythm has also been used by healers and in prayer from around the world since the dawn of time.

Rhythms, stories and legends

 

 

In many cultures there are legendary rhythms.

Most of these legends are based on an actual occurrences  that  have inspired the rhythms and the names they are known for.

Melodies were then used with these rhythms.

 

                 

  Origins 

        

There is evidence of the first middle eastern drums that goes back thousands of years. The modern doumbeck while currently being made from polymers and aluminum with mylar and fiber skin heads.

Was originally a goblet style drum made from ceramic body covered with a fish skin head.

These are still made and  are available for purchase and sound great!

           Apes and sticks

    It has been observed in the jungles that primates hit trees with  sticks to ward off predators and rivals. We also have used things like bagpipes and other music to intimidate the adversary.

For hundreds of years different cultures have used war drums before battle within hearing distance to put fear in the hearts of the enemy. Drums have also played a role in combat.

Nautical  history

What kept everyone moving together?

Rhythm!  

A drummer kept time on a large drum,With that many  oars in the water there was little choice. Latter this evolved into

sea chants and songs which helped the crew

to work in unison.
